Welcome 

An Electrical Power Engineer with a PhD from Queen's University Belfast. Motivated by the energy evolution towards a low carbon future following the net-zero carbon targets and the sustainable development goals. Working on the integration of renewable energy, energy storage systems, and low carbon technologies in the distribution networks and how to plan resilient and robust networks for the net zero future.

  • Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (MIET)
  • PhD thesis focused on facilitating the integration of renewable energy using energy storage systems and improving the distribution network performance to accommodate securely more low carbon technologies as a part of  EU SPIRE2 Project.
  • Recipient of the 1st prize award in the EEECS Thesis Award competition at QUB - 2022.
  • Recipient of the EEECS PGR Paper Award at QUB - 2021/22.
  • Recipient of the 1st Prize Award in the Graduate Student Poster Contest at the 2021 IEEE PES GM.
  • Recipient of the 1st Prize Award in IEEE Region 8 Student Paper Contest 2018.
  • Formerly, an assistant lecturer at the Electrical & Control Department of Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport, Cairo Campus (AAST), Egypt.

Projects 

  • Residential battery techno-economic analysis
    • Comprehensive analysis on the behind the meter batteries in terms of scheduling and operation, degradation, and profitability analysis in the presence of EV and PV.  The project includes analysing the measurements of a real battery installed in SPIRE 2 project testbed, Northern Ireland. 
  • I-SEM forecasting and energy arbitrage maximization framework
    • A forecasting model for the integrated single electricity market (I-SEM) of the island of Ireland and an energy arbitrage maximization framework to maximize the revenues from the participation of batteries in I-SEM ex-ante markets
  • Grid power levelling Framework
    • A frameowrk combined of two strategies; real-time and look-ahead scheduling of battery energy storage systems to improve the distribution network operation by flattening the grid power curve.
  • Battery Energy Storage Systems Allocation and Sizing
    • Two algorithms are developed to determine the optimal battery capacity to solve the network violations and enhance the performance of the medium and low voltage networks.
  • Battery Energy Storage Systems Active Reactive Power Control
    • A model predictive control is developed to control the active and reactive power dispatch of the battery inverter to support the network operation by enhancing the power quality while maintaining the network constraints within the acceptable limits.
  • Power Management Strategy for the Active Distribution Networks
    • A two stage strategy is developed using OPF and Multi-agent systems in order to optimize the operation of smart grids with high penetrations of renewable energy.
